Our Future Still Depends on Oil...
USA Matt Bruce
SARASOTA, FL. (NS/TCA) -

Understand, the current battle we are engaged in is much bigger than just Iraq. What happens in this next year will affect this country and how our kids and grand kids live throughout their lifetime, and beyond...

Radical Islam has been attacking the West since the seventh century. They have been defeated in the past and decimated to the point of taking hundreds of years to recover. But they will never be totally defeated...

Their birth rates are so far beyond civilized world rates that in time they recover and attempt to dominate again...

There are eight terror-sponsoring countries that make up the threat to the West. Two, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, just need firm pressure from the West to make major reforms. They need to decide who they are really going to support and commit to that support...

That answer is simple. They both will support who they think will hang in there until the end, and win. We are not sending very good signals in that direction right now, thanks to the Democrats...

The other six, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, North Korea and Libya will require regime change or a major policy shift. Now, let's look more closely...

Afghanistan and Iraq have both had regime changes, but are being fueled by outsiders from Syria and Iran...

We have scared Mohmar Gaddafi's pants off, and he has given up his quest for nuclear weapons, so I don't think Libya will ever again be a threat...

North Korea (the non-Islamic threat) can be handled diplomatically by buying them off. They are starving. That then leaves Syria and Iran...

Syria is like a frightened puppy. Without the support of Iran they will join the stronger side. So where does that leave us???

Sooner, or later, we are going to be forced to confront Iran, and it better be before they gain full nuclear capability...

In 1989, Iran and Iraq shot missiles at each other every day for months. They killed hundreds of thousand of their people. They also gassed each other, know why???

It was because they were fighting for control of the Middle East and that enormous oil supply...

At that time, they were preoccupied with their internal problems and could care less about toppling the west. Oil prices were fairly stable and we could not see an immediate threat...

Well now, all of that has changed in the Middle East. The worst part of what we have done as a nation in Iraq is to do away with their military capability. Now, Iran has a clear field to dominate the Middle East, since Iraq is no longer a threat to them...

They are convinced they will win because the USA is currently so divided, and the Democrats (who now control Congress and may control the Presidency in 2008) have openly said we "are pulling out."

Do you have any idea what will happen if the entire Middle East turns their support to Iran, which they will obviously do if we pull out???

It is not the price of oil we will have to worry about. Oil will not be made available to this country at any price. I personally would vote for any Presidential candidate who did what JFK did with the space program. That is to declare a goal to bring this country to total energy independence in a decade or less and actually do something to make that happen...

The time is way past due to drill more whenever and wherever we can find oil in our own Country. We need to build more Refineries right NOW and that can be on old Military Bases that have been shut down. And if we get serious and do something to show OPEC that we ARE going to become Energy self sufficient, the price of oil WILL come down...

Yes, it is about oil. The economy in this country will totally die if that Middle East supply is cut off right now. It will not be a recession. It will be a depression that will make 1929 look like the "good-old-days"...

One way or another, Iran must be forced to join modern times and the Global community. It 'may' mean a real war--if so, now is the time to talk first and put World pressure on them, before we face a nuclear Iran with the capacity to destroy Israel...

The human race is a war-like population, and if a country is not willing to protect itself, it deserves the consequences...

Nuff-said!!!

Now, my last comments will get to the nerve. They will be on politics. I am an Independent first, not a Republican nor a Democrat, who still believes in the American dream. George Bush has made enough mistakes as President to insure my feelings about that for the rest of my life. However, the Democratic Party has moved so far left, they have made me support those farther to the right. I am a Conservative who totally supports the Constitution of this country and stands up for those who defend, protect and serve the USA keeping all of us FREE and SAFE...

The only difference between the United States and the South American third world dictator infested and ever-changing South American governments in our hemisphere is our U.S. Constitution...

This 'Republic', note I did not say Democracy, is the longest standing the world has ever known, but it is vulnerable. It would take so little to change it through economic upheaval...

There was a time when politicians could disagree, but still work together. We are past that time, and that is the initial step toward the downfall of our form of government. It's time for those in Washington, DC to WAKE UP and start working together or we WILL "vote the bums out!"...

I think that many view Bush-hating as 'payback time'. The Republicans hated the Clintons and now the Democrats hate Bush. So, both parties are putting their hate toward their willingness to do anything for political dominance, which includes lying and always taking the opposite stand just for the sake of being opposed.

Just how good is that for our country???

You can choose to listen to enriched newscasters, and people like John Murtha (he is no war hero), Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry (same as Murtha), Michael Moore, Jane Fonda, Harry Reid, Russ Feingold, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and on-and-on to include the fools in Hollywood if you like. If you do, your conclusions will be totally wrong...

The reason that I write, have my own Talk Show, appear on other radio talk shows, and do everything I can to denounce those people is simple...

They are putting their thirst for political power and quest for victory in 2008 above what is best for this country...

I cannot abide that. Pelosi clearly defied the Logan Act by going to Syria , which should have led to her imprisonment of three years and a heavy fine. Jane Fonda did more to prolong the Vietnam war longer than any other human being (as acknowledged by Ho Chi Minh in his writing before he died). She truly should have been indicted for treason...

This country has started to soften by not enforcing its laws, which is another indication of a Republic about to fall. All Democrats, along with the Hollywood elite, are sending us headlong into a total defeat in the Middle East, which will finally give Iran total dominance in the region. A lack of oil in the near future will be the final straw that dooms this Republic...

However, if we refuse to let this happen and really get serious about an energy self-sufficiency program, this can be avoided...

I am afraid, however, that we are going in the opposite direction of where we need to be headed. If we carry through with allowing Iran to take control of the Middle East, continue to refuse development of nuclear energy, refuse to allow drilling for new oil, and continue to do nothing but oppose everything President Bush suggests, it will be over in terms of what we view as the good life in the USA...

Now, do I think that all who do not support the war are 'Un-American'? Of course not! They just do not understand the importance of total victory in that region. Nothing short of 100% total victory is acceptable in the Global War on Terror and we must not and can not give up when we are so close to achieving just that...

Another failure of George Bush is his inability to explain to the American people WHY we are there, and why we MUST win...

We did find WMD's as was evidenced by the 550 metric tons of Yellow cake uranium just moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The AP did in fact confirm an earlier news story from August of 2004 documenting the discovery of this Yellow cake uranium and several thousand documents detailing Iraq's Nuclear intentions and their past and current desires to make Nuclear weapons...

Just this amount of Yellow cake uranium could have made 142 nuclear bombs and that doesn't include the thousands of drums of chemicals which were also earmarked for artillery shells capable of firing Chemical rounds at Iraq's enemies...

The time has come once again to remind Americans and the World about these documented facts and let the TRUTH be told, once and for all about Iraq and the Global War on Terror. We are fighting against those who are sworn to our destruction and are willing to do ANYTHING they can to kill as many of us that they can...

So either we become Energy self sufficient and do what needs to be done to secure our own economic future, or we will still prepare to go to war to continue doing and being the same way we have been, depending on Foreign Oil for decades.

I prefer the first choice, how about you???

What You Can Do To 'Jump Start' Our Democrat Led Congress On High Oil Prices...

Editorial! News Alert! News Release!
Something You Can Do To 'Jump Start' Our Democratic Led Congress About High Oil Prices...

Folks: Here's a sample letter I received from a friend of mine that was sent recently to a U.S. Senator in Oklahoma. You can simply insert your name and the name of your local Congressman or Senator to resend...

'The Captain'

------------------

Dear (Insert Congressman Or Senator's name):

I'm writing to you, as I have a few times before, in hope that you might hear my message and at least ponder it. I live in (Insert Your Home State) and have 'NO' Senatorial representation, as you know, so I'm sorry to say I have to contact you when you have your own constituents to worry about. Please consider these thoughts about our looming gasoline situation...

#1. Why couldn't 'our' Government enact emergency legislation to force all 50 states to start using gasoline with the highest emissions standards (I believe this to be California) which would save the oil refineries a great deal of money, as they currently have to refine the gas to many different (I've heard nearly 30 different emission standards for the 50 states) emission standards. The costs to the refiners, of doing this, supposedly is very great, not to mention the added costs of transporting the fuel to the different states (they have to clean out all of the tankers, etc.). I believe this would also satisfy many of the environmentalists also. I see this as a win-win situation...

#2. Why can't we start pumping from any & all oil wells in the nation, that we previously pumped from, that may have been abandoned, or production has been slowed???

#3. It's time for our Congress to stop the partisanship and do what's best for our citizens and our country's security/future, etc. And by that I mean stop bickering about drilling for oil in ANWR and off the coasts of California & Florida. Our nation has not experienced an off-shore oil accident before, even when hurricanes have hit, and the problems we've had with 'spills' have been in the shipping aspect. It's time someone stood up in the Senate as well as the House and told the folks to get off their 'environmental high-horses' and do what's best for our country's immediate needs and for our long-term security...

#4. I have listened to all of the arguments about 'blame-placing, is it the fault of the oil companies, speculators, OPEC, our Government, etc. I believe the one thing that can bring immediate relief to our country at the gas pumps, would be if we passed emergency legislation that forced speculators to put up 50% of the dollar amount they bid rather than working off lines of credit. The one exception I think we should make is for the airline & delivery (UPS, FEDEX, Airborne Express, etc.) industry only (unless there's another industry I'm overlooking that has to buy their fuel through this medium)...

Newt Gingrich said that if the President dumped a large amount of our strategic oil reserve on the market it would send the price of a barrel way below $100?? If so, it would be worth a try. We need to send a message to the middle eastern oil cartels that we will fight back any way we can...

If I have my info correct, it seems like these 4 ideas might bring some reasonably immediate short-term relief to the American consumer. In the long term, we need to get building more refineries, drill more in the continental US, start building many more Nuclear power plants and put much more $$$ into solar energy research. This will also create good jobs for our current legal 'American' workers...

Something nobody ever talks about because we seem to think we have more pressing issues, is how do we get rid of our nations refuse/garbage in the coming decades. This 'burying our trash' system we currently use will ultimately damage our fresh water reserves in my opinion. We can't continue to make "Mt. Trashmores" as far as the eye can see. Solar seems like the logical way to incinerate trash, etc. As there is no residual damage to the ozone due to fuel burn-off. I even heard a report the other day about a scientist that believes he can power automobiles by incinerating trash...

I can't thank you enough for being the leader that you are, and I thank you in advance for considering my letter...

Sincerely,

(Insert Your Name & Address Here)

The 'New Wave' Of Politics...

Editorial! Action Alert!
My Fellow Americans:

I am hearing more and more from my listeners and readers the phrase, "vote the bums out!"...

The voices I'm hearing are right about people being 'fed up' with the same old 'business as usual' attitude in Washington, DC and our State Capitols...

People are upset with both the Democrat and republican Parties. They feel that they have been betrayed by both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid...

The fastest growing voting sector across America is now the Independent voter, or 'I', for short. Voter registrations have been and are being changed to Independent...

"Operation Chaos" has created an 'illusion' that the Democratic Party is growing in numbers when in fact the Presidential Primary process has been 'manipulated' by some Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh who started this movement...

Perhaps the time has come for an 'Independent Party' to be formed where we 'the voter' can show the Country there must be changes made for the good of the people and not the politicians or we'll vote them out and start over???

We also need to get off our dependency on OPEC and their Foreign oil which is in control of our nation's economy!

The Arabs and OPEC can defeat us financially without even firing a shot by manipulating the price of Crude Oil...

The time is way past overdue to tell OPEC to 'Go Eat SAND!'...

Hugo Chavez is now drilling a deep water Oil well 45 miles south of Key West, FL within the 50 mile territorial limit of Cuba and has the blessing of Cuba to do so. Most of that oil will be sold to China, and we still can't agree we need more Oil Refineries and Drilling Platforms in the Gulf of Mexico...

How many politicians have come out in favor of such a proposal and how close are we to building more Refineries for Bio Diesel and Ethanol made from American Farm by products???

We need to 'drill more', 'drill now', 'refine more of our own Oil' and build more refineries so we can all pay much 'less'. There is no other way for America to survive what is happening around the World with Oil prices...

There's a reason for all of this and why our politicians have failed to notice. They are 'in bed' with Big Oil and their $money$...

The fact of the matter is Oil Speculators control the price of Oil and many of these 'Speculators' come not just from the OPEC Countries, but our own as well...

Why not tell the American people 'who' these Oil speculators are that reside inside our Borders? We already know that FINA and Deutschbank are the 2 largest Oil speculation Companies...

This is actually a form of 'price fixing' being done by International Companies and individual investors who would be prosecuted in the United States if the Government could do so...

We need leaders in our State and National Capitals that are willing to do whatever it takes to bring America back to being the most respected Nation on Earth...

After all, just look at the millions across the Globe still trying to get into our Country either legally or illegally. They know how good it is here compared to where they're coming from...

The politicians days, both Democrat and Republican, who are not listening to the people are numbered as we close in on our next National election in 2008...

Don't be surprised at what you see after the dust has settled in our next National Election in 2008. There will be changes on 'both sides' of the aisle...

And to our Military, keep up the good work all of you are doing for America! Our Country & God supports you...

We all know we are engaged in a Religious Conflict in the Global war on Terror against a radical element of the Islamic faith...

If our elected Officials don't want to take steps NOW to do whatever it takes to alleviate the Oil price crisis and control Illegal Immigration, then it is time to 'replace them' and get somebody who will do what it takes...

May God continue to bless the United States of America...

Lakewood Ranch, FL. (NS/CGCert) -

A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) has been formed at The Colonial Grand Apartment Homes Complex in Lakewood Ranch...

The CERT Team's Founder and Captain is 25-year veteran Fire-Rescue Captain, Matt Bruce, originally from Upstate New York...

Mr. Bruce has extensive experience which includes responding to the 9/11 Attack on the World Trade Center in New York City and also responding to Hurricane's Charley, Katrina, Rita and Wilma as a FEMA Logistics Contractor in Florida, Mississippi and New Orleans, LA. In addition, Mr. Bruce is a member of the Manatee County ARES Team and American Red Cross Disaster Response Team...

The Colonial Grand CERT Team currently has 16 members who are responsible for the 288 Apartment Home Complex and is currently seeking to expand to 32 members. "That would give us 2 members per building," says Bruce...

Team Leader's include Randy Spivey, who has previous Hurricane Disaster related experience and Katy Auer. Even the Colonial Grand Apartment Homes Facility Manager, Karen Spivey, is a member of the CERT Team...

Since Colonial Grand is made up of Rentor's, they were not originally allowed membership into the Lakewood Ranch CERT Team. So, Matt Bruce, with the permission of Manatee County Emergency Management, started up a CERT Team made up of residents from the Colonial Grand Apartment Homes Complex. This is the first Apartment Complex in Manatee County to have started up their own CERT Team...

CERT Team members complete a 22 hour Training Course and are certified in Basic First Aid. Colonial Grand CERT is in the Town Center Lakewood Ranch CDD #3 and will respond to any emergency where they are needed...

Colonial Grand CERT is the only CERT Team in Lakewood Ranch that currently has radio communications in place that can reach both the State of Florida and Manatee County during any emergency. Using ARES Team operators and residents of Colonial Grand, communications and stored supplies have already been established...

Is SRQ Getting What It's Paying For???

Sarasota-Bradenton airport chief's pay grabs attention...

Written By: Susan Taylor Martin, Times Senior Correspondent

Published Saturday, April 26, 2008 2:53 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BRADENTON, FL. (NS/SPT) —

Airlines are merging or going bankrupt, throwing thousands out of
work. Passengers endure security hassles and long delays caused by
aging planes...

But in the turbulent U.S. aviation industry, it has been a comfortable
ride for one Floridian — Fredrick J. Piccolo, president and CEO of
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport...

At $196,285 a year, Piccolo makes nearly $73,000 more than the
director of the larger Pensacola airport and about $3,500 more than
the director of Palm Beach International, which handles five times as
many passengers as Sarasota-Bradenton...

And that's just for starters in the most expansive compensation
package of any airport director in Florida...

The Sarasota-Manatee Airport Authority provides Piccolo with a 2005
Acura and pays for maintenance including regular oil checks ($53),
tires ($974) and even car washes...

Piccolo also gets three round-trip tickets a year for wife Sally to
accompany him on business trips, some as far away as Buenos Aires. And
in another perk almost unheard of in the airport industry, the
authority provides Piccolo with a $425,000 pool home it bought in
Sarasota so he won't have to commute as often from his own house in
St. Petersburg. An additional $75,000 went to update and furnish the
Sarasota house...

As the authority meets today for Piccolo's annual review, board
members say the money is well spent...

"He does have a very generous package, and he's worth every penny of
it,'' says chairman Jack Rynerson, noting that Piccolo lured low-cost
carriers AirTran and JetBlue to the airport...

But Piccolo's salary and benefits have raised eyebrows even though the
authority — a public agency — gets no tax money and is supported
entirely by rents, landing fees and other business operations...

"His compensation is kind of nutty,'' says Michael Stephenson,
president of a firefighters local that fought unsuccessfully in 2006
to keep the airport from privatizing its fire department in a cost-
cutting move. "When you look at his salary and factor in all that
other stuff, it's not much different than the biggest airports
around.''

With 1.6-million passengers a year, Sarasota-Bradenton ranks 94th
among all U.S. airports and ninth in Florida. It has long struggled to
increase commercial service because it is within an hour's drive of
27th-ranked Tampa International, which offers 10 times more daily
flights to more destinations...

"It's not always easier to run a smaller airport, certainly not when
it comes to air service,'' says Piccolo, 55, who came to Sarasota-
Bradenton in 1995 after working at TIA. "When airlines cut back, the
first place they go are places like mine.''

'Not a mansion'...

Piccolo is well-regarded in the industry. He was North American
chairman of Airport Councils International last year and is a past
president of the Florida Airport Managers Association. Sarasota-
Manatee board members say their fear of losing him is why they agreed
to perks generous enough to surprise others in the business...

"Wow, that sounds pretty good,'' Greg Chin, spokesman for 15th-ranked
Miami International, said of Piccolo's salary and benefits. Miami's
aviation director makes a higher salary, but gets no house or spouse
travel privileges...

For years, Piccolo commuted 70 miles a day between his St. Petersburg
house and the airport. To encourage him to move to the community
served by the airport, the board first considered giving him use of a
house that had been noise-proofed with federal grant money. But when
the Federal Aviation Administration balked at that idea, the authority
dipped into its own funds in 2005 to buy a house...

Board member Paul Sharff said it would be a good investment but voiced
concern about the perception...

"The question will be, how is Mr. Piccolo's moving here going to bring
us more air service?" he wondered...

Nonetheless, the board unanimously approved the purchase plus $25,000
for "window treatments and furnishings.'' The Piccolos — who still
spend considerable time in St. Petersburg — bought a $2,084 Sony 40-
inch flat-screen TV and a $2,059 modular entertainment center for the
Sarasota place...

"It's not a mansion,'' Piccolo says of the 24-year-old house, now
updated with granite countertops. "It needed a lot of work, though I'm
not saying it's a terrible benefit.''The board also approved travel
for Sally Piccolo, who has used her round-trip tickets to accompany
him to Hawaii (ticket cost: $2,352), Zurich ($2,710), South Africa
($6,807) and Buenos Aires ($2,759)...

"It is a lot of money,'' Rynerson, the board chairman says, "but we
knew he was going to be doing extensive travel and having her fly
three times out of 20 doesn't bother me.''

Partly due to his chairmanship of the airports council, Piccolo took
23 trips last year for a total cost of $53,500. By comparison, TIA
executive director Louis Miller, who also served on the council board,
took eight trips totaling $14,000...

The airport authority's six members — three each from Manatee and
Sarasota counties — are appointed by the governor and get a $2,000
annual stipend. All are Republican, and several have strong political
ties, including Sharff, former head of the Manatee Republican Party;
Leslie Wells, wife of former Manatee Sheriff Charlie Wells; and Eric
Robinson, chairman of the Sarasota Republican Party...

Two of Piccolo's children also have been active in Republican
politics...

Fred Jr. worked on U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris' unsuccessful 2006
Senate campaign. Thomas Piccolo, then 23, unsuccessfully ran for the
state House from St. Petersburg that year. A third of his campaign
contributions came from aviation industry professionals and companies
doing business at the Sarasota-Bradenton airport...

Piccolo acknowledges asking for contributions. Neither he nor board
chairman Rynerson saiy they saw any problem with that...

"Most of the people in the industry know everybody else reasonably
well,'' Rynerson says. "He (Piccolo) also jacked prices up for
everybody at the airport. If he was going to be nice to them, he
wouldn't have done that.''

Times researcher Carolyn Edds contributed to this report. Susan Taylor
Martin can be contacted at susan@sptimes.com...

Editor's Note:

Many in the Sarasota-Manatee County area still chose to drive to Tampa International Airport to catch a cheaper and usually 'direct flight' to where they need to go. This isn't the case with most of the flights out of SRQ in Sarasota. It should also be noted that the Federal Grants and local monies received in the past and currently are in fact Taxpayer monies that have been used at SRQ. Is the Fox in the Hen House and is there a waste of money there?
